FORT MYERS, Fla.--  Denison's 10-game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday but not before the Big Red got in one last win.  In a split doubleheader, the Big Red opened the day with an 11-1 win over St. Joseph's-Long Island before falling to No. 9 Johns Hopkins, 2-1.

In the morning game, Denison improved to 10-1 on the season after a convincing 11-1 victory over St. Joseph's.  The Big Red was clinging to a 2-1 lead until the bottom of the fifth.  That's when Will Krushena blasted a one-out grand slam off reliever Nick Mannarino.

DU added one run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly to center by Grady Paine.  In the eighth, the Big Red blew the game wide open on a two-run home run by Nick Pettigrew, an RBI double by Dylan Hunter and an RBI ground out by Daniel Spencer.

Danny Brackman continued his streak of strong outings, improving to 4-1 on the season.  He went 7.0 innings, allowing eight hits and one run while striking out a season-high nine batters.  Henry Hack and Caleb Struewing finished off the game with two scoreless innings of relief.

Anthony Ruggieri and Vince Walker each went 3-for-3.  Ruggieri scored two runs, had one RBI and a walk.  Krushena was 1-for-4 with a walk and four RBIs.  He leads the squad with 20 RBIs this season.

Against Johns Hopkins, Denison plated a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Will Krushena, scoring Grady Paine.  That is the only offense the Big Red could muster against Johns Hopkins starting pitcher Jack Bunting who fired a complete game five-hitter while striking out 11.

Denison starter Kenny Lippman took the loss, going 4.1 innings.  Lippman gave up three hits, four walks, and one earned run while striking out two.  Mike Rivera closed out the game with 4.2 innings of scoreless relief.  He struck out six while giving up only two hits.

Johns Hopkins improved to 11-4 while Denison dropped to 10-2.  The Big Red is back in action on Thursday when they take on SUNY-Cobleskill at noon in Port Charlotte, Florida.
