Denison opens Spring Break with a 13-2 victory

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla--  Denison ran its winning streak to eight with a 13-2 victory over Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) to open play at the Snowbird Classic.

First-year starting pitcher Will McManaman earned his first collegiate victory.  The southpaw pitched 5.0 innings, scattering four hits while striking out three.  He did not allow a run in the win. 

Conversely, the Big Red offense roughed out Mount St. Mary starting pitcher Christian Spano to the tune of 10 runs, eight of which were earned, in 3.0 IP.  DU opened with three runs in the first before an out was recorded.  Two more crossed the plate in the second and a five-run third blew the game wide open.

In the third, an RBI single by Grady Paine put Denison on top, 6-0.  Will Krushena Krushena drove in Ty Robinson from third and Brad Baldinger cleared the bases with a bases loaded double to right-center, scoring Max Lahn, Krushena and Vince Walker.

Baldinger was 3-for-4 with four RBIs.  Lahn, Robinson, and Krushena were 2-for-4.  Denison pounded out 17 hits and pitching trio of McManaman, Daniel Kurtzer and Max Dehon combined for one earned run and seven strikeouts.

Mount St. Mary drops to 3-3 while Denison moves to 8-1.  The Big Red returns to action on Monday when they play Vassar at 12 p.m. in Port Charlotte, Florida.
