Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio-- No. 25 Denison scored nine unanswered goals in the first 12 minutes of the game, jumpstarting the Big Red to a convincing 24-2 win over Fredonia on Sunday at Piper Stadium.
With wind consistently blowing between 25-40 MPH and temperatures hovering around freezing the conditions were anything but ideal. The Big Red defense swarmed the Blue Devils any time they gained possession, making their life difficult in clearing situations. Fredonia was 8-of-22 when clearing and finished the day with 24 turnovers. The Big Red dominated possession, taking 24 of 27 draws led by Jane Goodspeed's 11 draw controls, tying her own school record.
The scoring attack was paced by Kiely Noonan who finished with five goals and two assists. Casey McTague scored four goals while adding two caused turnovers, four draw controls, and two ground balls. Leander Perun and Molly Fischer both tallied hat-tricks while Virginia Hamilton, Hope Adams and Colleen Muldoon scored two goals and had one assist, apiece.
Other goal scorers for DU included Graham McIntosh, Sydney Ludes, and Emerson Younger. Hannah Magarian got the start in goal and finished with two saves in 30 minutes. Maeve Caldwell played the second half, turning in two saves.
Denison held a 49-8 advantage in shots and a 32-13 lead in ground balls. The Big Red improves to 1-1 while Fredonia drops to 0-2. Denison returns to action next Sunday (March 3) when they travel to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania for a 1 p.m. match against the top-ranked Bullets.
