Box Score WOOSTER, Ohio – Wooster's Mila Zunich and Miura Wiley each scored in the first half as the Fighting Scots handed the Big Red a 2-0 defeat in the semifinal round of the 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Carl Dale Field.
Also responsible for Wooster's two goals in Saturday's 2-0 win at Denison in the regular-season finale, Zunich continued where she left off in the ninth minute on Wednesday when she accepted a pass from Wiley and connected on the far right side of the net to put the Big Red in a an early 1-0 deficit.
Less than a minute later, sophomore Abby King looked to tie the match at 8:56, but her shot missed off the crossbar and kept the Scots on top.
Over the next 31:15 of action, Denison and Wooster were split with four shots each, including a pair of shots on target from Claire Kolff and Riley Hammond. In the 41st minute, Patil Tcholakian saved a header from Claire Davis to hold off the Scots, but Wiley followed the rebound and sent it in for her sixth goal of the season. Wooster carried a 2-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, Emma Phinney and Meg Rogan tallied a pair of shots on goal for the Big Red, but Wooster's Molly Hutter collected two of her five saves on the day to secure the shutout and eliminate Denison from the conference tournament. The win sends the Scots to the NCAC championship match where they will play the winner of DePauw and Kenyon at a time and location to be determined.
King led the match with four shots, including one on net. Rogan, Hammond, Kolff, Phinney also posted shots on goal for DU. Wooster's Krenare Rakoci recorded a team-best three shots with two on goal. Wiley finished with a goal and an assist for three points on the day while Zunich converted the second of her two shots.
In goal, Hutter moved to 13-2-3 on the season with five saves in 90 minutes. Tcholakian finished with four saves in a full match effort.
The Big Red finished their season at 8-7-4 overall and 5-2-1 in NCAC play.
