Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio – A pair of second-half goals from Mila Zunich and Miura Wiley helped Wooster post a 2-0 win over the Big Red on Saturday afternoon in the regular-season finale at Barclay-Thomsen Field. Both sides will continue their seasons next Wednesday, November 6 at 2 p.m. when they meet in a rematch in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal at Wooster.
Despite outshooting the Scots 16-11 for the match, including 7-4 in the first half, both sides entered the half with a scoreless tie. The Big Red were unable to tally their lone shot on goal in the opening frame while Wooster was also held off the board by Patil Tcholakian on three shots on goal.
In the second half, Wooster converted 22 seconds into the frame when Zunich connected with her right foot and put the Scots ahead 1-0. DU's Abby King followed with a pair of shots for the Big Red, with the latter requiring a save from Wooster's Molly Hutter.
In the 53rd minute, Wiley added the second goal of the match for the Scots when she posted a goal from the right side and built Denison's deficit to 2-0.
After the next eight shots were evenly divided between Denison and Wooster, DU's Ariel Loevy looked to put the Big Red on the board at 82:47, but her shot on target was saved by Hutter as the match remained 2-0. Liz Gilbert and Logan Agin attempted Denison's final two shots in the 88th and 89th minutes, but they were unable to connect as DU dropped to the No. 3 seed in next week's conference tournament at 8-6-4 overall and 5-2-1 in the conference. The win pushed Wooster to the No. 2 seed at 12-2-3 and 5-1-2 in the NCAC.
King led the match with four total shots, including one on goal. Agin followed with three shots and Meg Rogan and Claire Kolff each finished with two shots each. Wiley was one of four Wooster players to finish with two shots on the day while adding one of two goals for the Scots.
In goal, Hutter earned the win with four saves in 90 minutes for Wooster. Tcholakian tallied seven saves in a full match effort.
Prior to the match, Denison recognized seniors Logan Agin, Riley Hammond, Emma Phinney, and Claire Kolff for their time and dedication to the DU women's soccer program over the last four years. The group will enter the NCAC Tournament looking for their second tournament title in four years.
