Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio – Highlighted by a trio of first-half goals from Abby King and Katie Livingston, Denison women's soccer earned their eighth win of the season on Tuesday night following a 4-1 defeat of Hiram College at Barclay-Thomsen Field.
The Big Red outshot the Terriers 36-7 on the night, including an impressive 27-1 ratio in the first half. Denison's offense put the pressure on Hiram's goalie Ally Green from the start, placing three of their first six shots on goal.
In the 11th minute, King accepted a cross from Amy Chiero and buried it in the top-right corner of the net to give DU the early lead, 1-0. Less than seven minutes later, a blocked shot from Riley Hammond landed at the feet of an oncoming King who chipped it in past the keeper for her eighth goal of the season and to increase Denison's lead to 2-0.
In the 23rd minute, the Big Red attempted their second corner kick of the match. Following a cross from the foot of Emma Phinney that landed in front of the net, Livingston finished the play with a header in the bottom left-hand corner of the goal for her first score of the season and to put DU in front, 3-0.
Denison tallied 13 more shots throughout the remainder of the first half, including four shots on goal, but Hiram's Green contained the Terrier deficit and sent the Big Red into the break with a 3-0 advantage.
The Terriers looked to jump-start their offense in the second half with three of the first four shots, but a save from Patil Tcholakian at 54:23 kept Hiram off the board and turned possession back to the Big Red. Denison followed with seven-straight shots, including their fourth goal of the night in the 82nd minute when Kailey Knopf connected on a ball from 25-yards out for her second goal of the season.
Hiram broke their scoreless showing in the 85th minute when Hannah Ward capitalized on a rebounded shot from Kaitlyn Harris, but Denison's offense was too much to handle as their 4-1 victory sent them to 5-1-1 in conference play.
Four Denison players finished with four or more shots on the night, including Meg Rogan with a match-best six shots. King tallied her two goals on four shots while Chiero and Claire Kolff also added four strikes each. Phinney complimented her assist with two shots on goal while Leland Keller, Maddie Reap, and Knopf also attempted two shots on target.
Harris led Hiram with three shots on goal while Ward added two shots total.
In goal, Green finished with 13 saves in 90 minutes of action for the Terriers while Tcholakian and junior Maddie Coyne combined for four saves in a full match effort.
Denison will round out the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 2 when they host the College of Wooster at 1 p.m. Prior to the match, the Big Red will recognize seniors Logan Agin, Claire Kolff, Emma Phinney, and Riley Hammond for their contributions to the women's soccer program over the last four years.
