Box Score GAMBIER, Ohio – Senior Logan Agin scored two of Denison's four goals as the Big Red erupted for a 4-1 win at Kenyon College on Saturday afternoon at Mavec Field in Gambier. Earning their fourth-straight victory since Sept. 25, the Big Red have outscored their opponents 11-1 during that stretch.
Highlighted by a 22-13 shot advantage, including 15 shots on goal compared to Kenyon's six, Denison had to work from behind during the early minutes of the match after KC's Fallon Raviol scored the first goal of the day at 9:31 and put the Ladies ahead, 1-0.
Despite the early deficit, the Big Red carried momentum through the rest of the first half with seven of the next 10 shots taken. In the 36th minute of action, Agin tied the match at 1-1 after she buried the equalizer in the left corner on a shot from behind the box. Two minutes later, Fellow senior Emma Phinney joined the scoring party when she accepted a pass from Amy Chiero and punched it in from five yards out to give Denison a 2-1 lead at 37:40.
Kenyon's Maddie Ladd attempted to tie the match in the 44th minute on a point-blank shot on goal, but DU's Patil Tcholakian snagged her second save of the half as the Big Red carried a 2-1 advantage into the break.
In the second half, Denison wasted no time in adding to their lead as Chiero beat two defenders on the left side of the goal at 48:57 and tallied a shot in the right corner. The goal kept the DU offense rolling as they increased their lead to 3-1.
Agin capped off the Big Red scoring in the 73rd minute when a DU cross was blocked by Kenyon's Erika Freiberg, but Agin was there to finish it past the keeper for her third goal of the season and to put Denison ahead 4-1.
Kenyon attempted five shots in the last 17 minutes of action, but the Ladies were unable to convert as the Big Red improved to 6-4-3 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC. The loss sent KC to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Agin headlined DU's efforts with two goals on seven shots, including four shots on goal. Leland Keller and Sydney Ludes followed with three shots each while Chiero and Abby King added two shots apiece. Kenyon's Raviol and Ladd tied for the team-lead with four shots each while combining for five shots on goal.
In goal, DU's Tcholakian earned her sixth win of the season after collecting five saves in 90 minutes of action. Freiberg tallied a match-best 11 saves in a full match effort.
The Big Red will look for their fifth-straight victory next Saturday, Oct. 19 when they host DePauw University at 12 p.m.
