Box Score 2 GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Thanks to a walk-off double by Emilie Fisher in game two, Denison softball took both games of a doubleheader with Rochester College in their home-opener, defeating the Warriors 9-1 in game one, and 6-5 in game two.
In game two, the Big Red found themselves in an early 2-0 deficit but were able to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second when Ricki Asher and Brennah Dutcher drove a pair of runs home.
After starting pitcher Lauren Secaras went three up, three down in the top of the fourth, the Big Red bats began to fly in the home half of the inning. Laura Bagan started the inning off with a double, and after Mckinly Vazquez moved her over on a groundout, Angel Ehrenschwender reached first on a fielder's choice, but Bagan was safe at home, giving Denison their first lead of the game.
Dutcher added to the lead with an RBI single, and two batters later, Sarah Herold landed an RBI triple to score Dutcher and take a 5-2 lead heading into the fifth.
In the top of the seventh, Kelcie Juhas and Brooke Snyder tallied a pair of RBI singles to help the Warriors tie the game at 5-5 entering the bottom of the inning. With a runner on first and one out, Fisher laced a double to score Herold and win the game for the Big Red.
Fisher and Herold finished the game going 1-for-4 each with one RBI. Bagan ended the game 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
While Fisher's walk-off stole the show in the second game, it was Herold's pitching performance in the first game that kept the Rochester hitters at bay and helped ignite the DU offense.
Thanks to a four-run first, Herold was able to go the distance, totaling one run on three hits over five innings of work with eight strikeouts.
After Secaras launched a two-run home run in the first to help the Big Red take a 4-0 lead, Herold helped herself in the bottom of the second when she ripped an RBI double to score Lindsey Clemson. RBI singles from Bagan and Vazquez would put DU ahead 9-0 heading into the third.
The Warriors were able to garner a run in the top of the third on an RBI single from Alexis Evans, but Herold finished the game strong with three strikeouts in the last eight batters she faced, tallying her second win of the season.
Secaras finished the game with a perfect 3-for-3, including 2 RBI's and two runs scored. Herold, Bagan, Vazquez, Asher and Amanda Howell would all record one RBI each.
The Big Red will return to action next Tuesday, March 27 when they head to New Concord, Ohio to take on Muskingum University. The doubleheader is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
