Big Red men roll past Musketeers

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Led by 12 event victories on the day and three individual wins from senior Matt Hedman, Denison men's swimming & diving secured a 176-86 defeated of Xavier University on Saturday afternoon at the Trumbull Aquatic Center in Granville.

The Big Red combined for 10 different individual victories against the Musketeers, earning their third-straight over the D-I opponent. Hedman highlighted Denison's charge in the individual events, leading the Big Red to wins in the 1,000 free (9:28.22), 500 free (4:36.82), and 400 IM (4:04.73).

The Big Red also earned the second-place finisher in each of those each with James Baker clocking in with a PR time at 9:50.48 in the 1,000, Dayen Wilson coming in at 4:43.42 in the 500, and sophomore John Stauffer finishing less than two seconds behind Hedman in the 400 IM at 4:06.65.

Totaling four overall victories on the day, sophomore Drake Horton won the 200 free in 1:42.47, and also claimed an individual win in the 100 free, logging a time of 46.95. He then joined Carson Clear, Tiernan Foster-Smith, and Kenny Fox in the 200 medley relay to win the event in 1:32.84.

Horton and Fox also teamed up with Matt McHugh and Bebe Wang to win the 400 free relay after clocking in at 3:06.00.

Wang went on to win the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:50.71, and placed second 100 backstroke with a 52.01.

Foster-Smith also captured an individual victory in the 100 breaststroke (57.06) and finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:11.66) to second-place Ryan Stevenson who clocked in at 2:09.14.

Two of Denison's remaining two victories came from junior Kymani Senior who won the 50 free in 21.02 and then secured the 100 butterfly in 50.51. Placing second to Senior in the 100 with a time of 50.59, freshman Noah Houskeeper tallied a win first-place finish in the 200 butterfly (1:51.80), edging Mitch Williams by .23 seconds in second place.

Diving was not a part of today's meet.

The Big Red will return to action next Saturday, November 10 when they host Kenyon College at 10 a.m.
