Coulter's record day leads DU past Gators

Box Score

MEADVILLE, Pa.—Denison sophomore Jack Coulter set a new program record with 10 3-pointers in a career-high 32-point effort helping the Big Red to a 97-72 win over Allegheny College.

Denison stormed out of the gates thanks to Coulter's dead-eye shooting.  He knocked down seven of his 11 attempts from long range in the first half. Oddly enough, only one of those 3-pointers came during Denison's pivotal 17-0 run that broke a 10-10 tie.

Coulter really heated up in the final four minutes of the first half, burring five triples over the Big Red's final seven offensive possessions.  His final 3-pointer of the first half came with four seconds left on the clock to give his team a commanding 36-point lead heading into the locker room.

In the second half, Allegheny did outscore the Big Red 50-39 but this game was decided in the latter stages of the first.  Coulter's 10 3-pointers broke the Denison varsity record of eight that was shared by Darius White (12/10/14) and Tony Price (12/16/00).  It also tied the North Coast Athletic Conference single-game record for 3-pointers equaled by Earlham's Travis Brett in 2002 and Ohio Wesleyan's Nick Felhaber in 2015.

For the game, Coulter was 11-of-20 from the field and 10-of-19 from beyond the arc.  Matt Doyle followed with 12 points and Conor Fenton chipped in 10 points off the bench.

Allegheny's Jordan Rawls tallied 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting.  Lamar Todd followed with 16.

Denison shot 49 percent from the field and was 39 percent from long range.  The Big Red also outrebounded the Gators 43-34.

Denison improves to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while Allegheny drops to 5-8 and 2-4 in conference play.  The Big Red returns to action on Wednesday (Jan. 10) when they host DePauw at 6 p.m.
