GRANVILLE, Ohio-- The Denison women's lacrosse team will open the NCAA Division III Tournament on Sunday, May 14 against Brockport. The game will be played at Piper Stadium in Granville, Ohio. The start time is TBA.
Denison was awarded the North Coast Athletic Conference's automatic bid following their 15-10 win over Oberlin College on Saturday. Denison is making their fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and the 19th trip in program history. This will be the second time Denison and Brockport have met on the lacrosse field in 2017. Brockport defeated the Big Red 11-5 on Feb. 26 in Granville.
The Big Red enters this year's tournament as one of the hottest teams in the country. Winners of 11-straight dating back to March 25th, DU rolled through the NCAC with a perfect 8-0 record. They have also logged non-conference wins over Stevenson, Fredonia, Springfield, Rensselaer and Mount Union.
Senior Claire Ludlow leads the team in points with 69. She has totaled at least two points in every game this season. Jane Goodspeed, the 2017 NCAC Tournament MVP, leads the defense with 35 caused turnovers and 45 ground balls. She is also the team leader with 60 draw controls.
Brockport is ranked No. 16 in the latest IWLCA Division III Top-20. They are 15-2 and are coming off a 12-7 loss to Cortland St. in the SUNYAC Championship. Prior to that, they were winners of nine-straight.
The Denison Sports Network will provide live video of the NCAA Tournament game. Ticket prices are $6 for adults, $3 for students (ages 13-21) and $2 for children (ages 3-12). The first 100 Denison students, faculty or staff members with a valid ID will be admitted free of charge.
