MADISON, Wis.-- No. 30 Denison suffered a 6-3 loss to No. 22 Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday afternoon at the Midwest Invitational.
Denison entered singles play trailing 2-1 after doubles wins by Whitewater in the first and second flights. At No. 3 doubles, the team of Carol Vitellas and Ashley Hammons defeated Alicia Beck and Brittany Goebel, 8-6.
In singles, Denison's Lauren Hawley defeated Megan Humphreys in a match-up of two of the region's top players. Hawley, who was ranked fourth in the region, topped fifth-ranked Humphreys, 6-3, 7-5.
At No. 2 singles, Emma Alsup took down Bridgid McGuire in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 10-8.
Denison falls to 6-9 overall. They will travel to Springfield, Ohio on Tuesday (April 11) for a 4:30 p.m. start against Wittenberg.
