GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Big Red improved to 2-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference West Division play following an 8-1 win over Wabash on Friday.
Denison grabbed a commanding 3-0 match lead after sweeping doubles competition. Colin Bahin and Danish Siddiquie picked up their fifth doubles win of the season after dispatching Mazin Hakim and Andrew Denning, 8-1, at the third flight. Jamie McDonald and Owen Smith took down Michael Makio Jordan Greenwell, 8-2, at No. 2 doubles en route to their ninth victory as a team. At the top flight, Kevin Brown and Blake Burstein collected their seventh-straight win following an 8-5 decision over William Reifeis and Patrick McAuley.
The Big Red secured the win by winning five of the six singles flights, only stumbling at No. 4 singles. Brown and Costas Alevizopoulos both were three-set winners at the first and sixth flights. After dropping the opening set, Brown won the next two (6-3, 10-3) en route to defeating Reifeis. Alevizopoulos was a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 victor over Nicholas Pollock. Smith (third singles) and Burstein (fifth singles) won their flights by way of identical 6-3, 6-2 scores, while McDonald won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Denison (8-8, 2-0 NCAC West) well close out the regular season on Saturday when they host DePauw University. Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
