Box Score CORTLAND, N.Y.-- Denison's difficult non-conference schedule continued on Saturday as they traveled to sixth-ranked Cortland State. A nine-goal first half by the Red Dragons put the Big Red behind the eight ball, eventually resulting in a 17-5 loss.
This was the first time Denison and Cortland State had played in women's lacrosse since 1984. That game was played in the second round of the USWLA National Tournament, with the Red Dragons coming away with an 8-7 win.
On Saturday, Cortland made the most of their scoring chances as they scored goals on 17 of their 21 shots taken in the game. Despite the 12-goal margin, the Red Dragons held a slight 21-18 advantage in shots.
Kiely Noonan led Denison with two goals on five shot attempts. Claire Ludlow scored one goal and one assist. She also led the team with three draw controls. Also scoring for DU was Leah Israel and Colleen Muldoon.
Hannah Magarian started the game in goal for Denison and recorded one save in 25 minutes. Becca Jones played the final 35 minutes and also posted one save. Cortland's Jaclyn Beshlian tallied six saves in her 49 minutes between the pipes.
Denison drops to 4-3 while Cortland State improves to 4-2. The Big Red closes out the non-conference portion of their schedule on Tuesday (March 28) when they travel to Alliance, Ohio for a 7:30 p.m. opening draw against Mount Union.
