Box Score DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Denison women's soccer team opened the North Coast Athletic Conference portion of their schedule with a 2-0 victory over Ohio Wesleyan at Jay Martin Soccer Complex.
The Big Red capitalized on their third corner kick of the opening period. After failing to clear Grace Murray's near-side corner, senior captain Anne Denz settled the ball just outside the box and ripped a shot from 21 yards out that hit off the crossbar before crossing the goal line. Denz's third goal of the season came in the 34th minute and sent DU into the locker room with the lead.
Denison held one-goal advantage until the 62nd minute when senior Jacquie Graham touched a crossing pass by the final OWU defender before slipping a shot past Mackenzie Brunke from eight yards out. The score was Graham's team leading sixth of the season.
The Big Red dominated play, outshooting the Bishops 25-5. OWU attempted one more corner (5-4), while each team was caught offsides twice. Denison keeper Jenny Herold made two saves en route to her 20th career save, while Brunke had four stops in the loss.
Denison improves to 3-3-3 overall and 1-0 in NCAC play, while the Bishops fall to 2-5 and 0-1 in the conference. The Big Red takes a break from league play on Wednesday when they host Case Western Reserve. Kickoff at Piper Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
