Denison draws Mary Washington in NCAA Tournament

The matchups for the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship were announced on Sunday night and the Denison Big Red will travel to Fredericksburg, Virginia to face Mary Washington on Sunday, May 15 at 2:30 p.m.  The Big Red and Eagles received a bye into the second round of the tournament.

Denison received the North Coast Athletic Conference's automatic bid following its 14-10 win over Wittenberg earlier in the day.  Denison is making its third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 18th trip in program history.

Winners of nine-straight and 10 of its last 12, the Big Red enters the tournament playing its best lacrosse.  Senior attacker Carol Allen leads Denison with 50 goals.  She has scored at least three goals in each of her last five games.  Lizzy Pellicane follows with 38 goals and 22 assists while Claire Ludlow leads the team in draw controls (62) and is third in points with 57 (37 goals, 20 assists).

Jane Goodspeed leads the defense with 25 caused turnovers and is second with 40 ground balls.  Grace Gavula is DU's ground ball leader with 41.

Mary Washington is ranked 16th in the latest IWLCA Top-20.  They bring a 14-4 record into the NCAA Tournament.  The Eagles' only losses have come against No. 11 St. Mary's (twice), No. 3 Salisbury and Catholic.  Mackenzie Maguire leads the team in goals with 43.  Mary Washington's last NCAA Tournament appearance came in 2012.
