Denison and Witt to meet in NCAC Championship

Two teams with lengthy winning streaks will battle in the 2016 North Coast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship as top-seeded Denison will host second-seeded Wittenberg on Sunday, May 8 at 1 p.m.

Denison ran through the NCAC regular season with a perfect 8-0 record in conference play.  The Tigers placed second with a 6-2 record in league play.  Denison is riding an eight-game winning streak that dates back to April 6 when the Big Red suffered a 13-12 loss to the regionally-ranked Mount Union.  The Tigers are winners of six straight, dating back to a 14-10 loss on April 10 at Allegheny.

Denison is no stranger to the NCAC Tournament Championship game.  This marks the fifth time in six years the Big Red have played for the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Big Red advanced to Sunday's title game by handing Wooster a 19-9 loss in the NCAC semifinal on Wednesday in Granville.  Denison went into halftime leading 7-6 but utilized an 11-0 run in the second half to blow by the Fighting Scots.

Denison senior attacker Carol Allen scored three goals against Wooster, giving her 150 goals for her career.  That moved her into third place all-time at DU.  Allen's 2.76 goals per game ranks her 10th in the NCAC.  Junior midfielder Claire Ludlow has made an impact all over the field in 2016. She has scored 36 goals to go along with 19 assists.  She also leads the squad with 62 draw controls.

Defensively, Jane Goodspeed, Emily Marlatt, Grace Gavula and Emily Sonneborn have combined for 128 ground balls and 71 caused turnovers.

Wittenberg is led in scoring by Olivia Lash (57 goals – 3.56 per game) and Becca Joseph (35 assists – 2.19 per game).  Carrie Kubasta is second in the conference in ground balls per game at 3.69 and Emily Wadds is the NCAC leader in draw controls with 95 (5.94 per game).

Sunday's NCAC Tournament Championship will be streamed live by the Denison Sports Network.  Pregame will begin at 12:50 p.m.
