Two nationally ranked squads clashed in the championship of the 2016 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament as No. 17 Kenyon held off No. 32 Denison for a 5-1 victory and the program's 19th conference title.
Kenyon opened the match by taking two of three doubles points, but the Big Red's inspiring tiebreaker win at third doubles gave Denison some life heading into singles play. The duo of Jamie McDonald and Owen Smith were down a break but fought back for the thrilling 11-9 win in the tiebreaker.
In singles, the Central Region's top-ranked player, Sam Geier, knocked off 12th ranked Kevin Brown from Denison, 6-3, 6-1 for the Lords' third point of the match.
In the fifth flight, Mike Roberts defeated Denison's Colin Bahin, 6-1, 6-1 setting the stage for the match-clinching point out of the sixth flight as Max Smith took down DU's Costas Alevizopoulos, 6-1, 6-1.
Denison fell to 13-7 while the Lords improved to 12-9. This is the 17th time that Denison and Kenyon have met in the championship match of the NCAC Men's Tournament.
