Box Score Denison opened North Coast Athletic Conference play with a bang, knocking off Wittenberg University, 15-10 in Springfield, Ohio. The Big Red never trailed, and a 10-minute stretch late in the second half that saw them score four goals would put the game out of reach.
The Big Red were led in scoring by Claire Ludlow and Lizzy Pellicane who combined for eight goals and three assists. Ludlow and Pellicane each tallied four goals. Carol Allen and Leah Israel followed with three goals while Claudia Rafi scored one.
Becca Jones got the start in goal and posted six saves in 30 minutes. Hannah Magarian played the second half and finished with five saves.
With the game tied at 2-2 seven minutes into the contest, Denison would go on a 4-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 6-2 lead. The Tigers would fight back, scoring three straight goals to get within one. A goal by Pellicane just seconds before halftime would send the Big Red into the break with an 8-6 lead.
The two teams would trade off goals in the second half before DU began to assert themselves at the 15:23 mark of the second half. A goal by Ludlow via a free-position attempt put Denison on top, 12-8. Denison would score three of the final five goals scored in the game to lock up the 15-10 win.
Last year the Big Red suffered an 18-17 loss to the Tigers, in overtime, in Granville. This is the first regular season win over Wittenberg since March 30, 2011.
