In a matchup of two regionally ranked opponents, Wabash held off Denison, 5-4 in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
With the match tied, 4-4, it came down to a third-set tiebreaker between Denison's Jack O'Koniewski and Wabash's Kirill Ivashchenko. O'Koniewski won the first set, 6-1 but Ivashchenko evened the match with a 7-5 win in the second. In the third, Ivashchenko completed the win with a 7-6 (7-2) tiebreaker win.
Denison trailed 2-1 after doubles but Colin Bahin tied things up with a 6-0, 6-2 win at sixth singles. Kevin Brown made it a 3-3 match after a 6-0, 6-2 win over Michael Makio.
At No. 5 singles, Owen Smith gave the Big Red a 4-3 lead by defeating Nicholas Pollock, 6-1, 6-4 but a win by Jordan Greenwell at No.3 would even the score, setting up Ivashchenko for the match-clinching point.
Denison drops to 9-6 and 1-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference West Division. They will take on DePauw University on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
