Box Score Fourth-ranked Denison jumped out to a 9-2 lead on The College of Wooster on Wednesday at Papp Stadium. The Fighting Scots would score the final four goals of the game, but the Big Red managed to hang on for the 9-6 victory. With the win, Denison moves to 11-1 and 5-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, setting the stage for Saturday's clash with 11th ranked Ohio Wesleyan.
Wednesday marked the return of All-American FOGO Eric Baumgardner and his presence was felt. After struggling at the faceoff X on Saturday at Oberlin, Denison won 13-of-8 faceoffs against the Scots. Baumgardner took every draw and finished with a game-high five ground balls.
Denison led 3-2 after the first quarter and would turn up the heat in the second, scoring five unanswered to take an 8-2 lead into the intermission. In the second, Blair Farinholt would score twice while Brian Miller and James Meager each scored their second goals of the contest.
With 11:10 to play in the third, Owen Armstrong would give DU a 9-2 lead. That would be Denison's last goal as the Scots held the Big Red scoreless over the final 24 minutes of play. Three of Wooster's final four goals would come from Matt Parmelee.
DU goalie Chris Thomas finished with eight saves while Aaron Levy finished with 10 saves for the Scots.
Ohio Wesleyan defeated Wabash 28-2 this evening to also improve to 5-0 in conference play. The two teams will faceoff inside Piper Stadium at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
