Box Score A five-goal run by No. 19 Fredonia State in the first half would be enough to push the Blue Devils past Denison, 10-7, on Sunday in Fredonia, N.Y.
The Big Red scored the first goal of the match just 1:13 into the first half when Leah Isreal scored off a pass from Lizzy Pellicane. Just over one minute later, Fredonia's Jade Williams would tie the game, sparking the aforementioned 5-0 run that gave the Blue Devils a 5-1 lead with seven minutes to play in the first half.
Denison would respond with three straight goals, with two coming from Reid Hirschey and one from Carol Allen. Trailing 6-5 early in the second half after another goal by Isreal, Fredonia would counter with two more scores from Audrey Yokopovich and Williams to take a three-goal lead with 14 minutes to play.
DU would bounce back for a second time when Allen and Claudia Rafi scored within a span of 30 seconds to trim the Blue Devil lead back to 8-7 with 12:58 remaining.
Over the final minutes of regulation, Hirschey would put one shot on goal for Denison but that would end up being saved by Fredonia goalie Nicole Burrows.
Fredonia held a 21-19 advantage in shots and both teams tied with 17 ground balls. Denison goalie Becca Jones posted two saves in 14 minutes while Hannah Magarian finished with six saves in 46 minutes of playing time.
Denison falls to 1-2 on the season while Fredonia improves to 1-2. The Big Red will return to action on March 14 when they take on Springfield College in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
