Box Score Lizzy Pellicane scored a career-high five goals but Springfield College utilized a 6-0 run in the first half to hand Denison a 15-12 loss in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
The Big Red took a 2-1 lead in the opening five minutes of play behind goals from Claire Ludlow and Claudia Rafi. Over the next 15 minutes of play in the first half, Springfield would go on a 6-0 run behind two goals from Shelby Corsano and two from Kristen Steidler.
DU would break the Springfield run when Pellicane scored twice in the final 1:51 of the first half, sending the Big Red into the intermission trailing 7-4.
In the opening five minutes of the second half, both teams would trade off goals and with just over 20 minutes to play, Denison trailed 9-6. Springfield's Kristina Krull would score twice in a span of just two minutes extending the Pride's lead to five. Ann Mahoney's goal with 17:34 left put Springfield on top 12-6 but Denison would not go quietly. The Big Red would score five of the next six goals and with five minutes left, they trailed 13-11.
With 4:19 remaining in regulation, Bianca Raniolo put her squad up three and 40 seconds later, she scored again, pushing the lead back to four with 3:39 to go. Denison's Leah Israel would score with 91 seconds on the clock but her goal would be the last to find the back of the cage.
Pellicane led all scorers with five goals off seven shots. Rafi finished with three goals while Ludlow chipped in two scores. Carol Allen and Isreal rounded out the scoring with one goal and two assists, each. Colleen Muldoon and Reid Hirschey led DU with four ground balls.
Corsano led Springfield with four goals and one assist. Steidler and Raniolo both had hat tricks for the Pride.
Springfield (5-0) held a 26-22 advantage in shots while taking 17 of 29 draws. Denison (1-3) will return to action on Tuesday when they take on No. 18 Washington College at 10:30 a.m. in Puerto Rico.
