Levy wins first NCAC crown

Denison junior diver Max Levy opened the 2016 North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championship with his first-career conference title after winning the three-meter event on Wednesday night from the Trumbull Aquatics Center in Granville, Ohio.

Levy led a trio of DU divers that occupied the top-3 slots on Wednesday with 563.40 points. Three of the junior's six finals dives scored in the 60s. Levy's fifth dive, a forward 2 ½ somersault 1 twist pike, resulted in an event-high score of 64.50. His second dive of the finals was a forward 3 ½ somersault pike that scored 62 points. Levy followed that up with a reverse 2 ½ somersault tuck that totaled 64.40 tallies.

Junior Brian Allen finished second with 519.75 points, while senior Ben Lewis rounded out the top-3 spots with a score of 506.35. Lewis' third-place score was almost 100 points better than the fourth-place performance. Allen best dive of the finals came in the fourth round when he scored 64.50 points with a reverse 2 ½ somersault pike that had a 3.0 degree of difficulty. Lewis turned in his best score in the final round, scoring 65.25 points on a reverse 1 ½ somersault 2 ½ twist free.

Denison resumes competition on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. for preliminaries in the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 400 medley relay. Thursday's finals will begin at 6:30 p.m.
