Men's Swimming and Diving

Denison tops DePauw

The Denison men's swimming & diving team returned to intercollegiate competition on Saturday with a 189-104 victory over DePauw University at the Trumbull Aquatics Center in Granville.  Denison won 11 events and was paced by three-time winner Brendan Howley.

The sophomore posted wins in both the 100 breaststroke (57.87) and the 200 breaststroke (2:11.42).  He also was a part of the winning 200 medley relay that was comprised of Carson Clear, Andrew Rich and Ryan Fleming.  The 200 medley relay win kicked off the meet with a time of 1:34.06.

First-year Blake Kent posted a win over teammate Mitch Williams in the 200 butterfly.  Kent won the race with a time of 1:57.20 while Williams touched in 1:57.32.

Max Howes and Jack Lindell were both two-time winners.  Howes won the 200 free in 1:43.38 and took the top spot in the 100 free in 46.88.  Second place belonged to Fleming in 47.19 while Jason Wesseling took third in 47.92.

Lindell's victories would come in the backstrokes where he posted a 52.22 in the 100 and a 1:53.08 in the 200.  Wesseling would finish second in the 100 back (52.44) while Conner Downard was the runner-up in the 200 back in 1:58.40.

In the distance freestyle events, Aaron Saccurato would win the 1650 in 16:37.69.  Matthew Hedman was second in 16:47.74.  In the 500 free, Stuart Hohm posted the fastest time in 4:45.76.

Other top finishers for Denison included Conrad Wuorinen who took second in the 50 free in 21.22.  In the 100 butterfly, Rich finished second in 52.31 and Kevin Brinegar was right behind in 52.34.

At the diving well, Denison took the top-four spots on both boards.  Ben Lewis was the winner of the 1-meter after and 11-dive score of 508.35.  Max Levy was second with 454.95 while Brian Allen took third at 445.95.  Fourth place went to Nathan Lightman with a score of 419.93.

In the 3-meter, Levy was the winner with a score of 543.38.  Allen was second at 505.50 while Lewis was third at 501.53 and Lightman checked in fourth at 436.58.

Denison improves to 2-5 in dual meets this season.  They will return to action next Saturday, Jan. 16 when they travel to Pittsburgh for a dual meet against the Division I Panthers at 11 a.m.
