DU routs OWU on Senior Day

The Denison men's swimming and diving team finished its 2015-16 dual meet schedule with a 180-75 win over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.

DU took home 11 event titles and had four multiple winners led by junior Jack Lindell who posted three victories. Lindell, Brendan Howley, Andrew Rich and Jason Wesseling opened up the meet with a victory in the 100 medley relay. The foursome combined for a time of 41.97. Lindell's other two wins came in the 100 fly and 100 backstroke. The junior won the fly after touching in at 49.95, while his time of 51.68 in the 100 back was almost three seconds faster than the second-place performance.

Howley, senior Ryan Fleming and sophomore Stuart Hohm were also two-time winners on Saturday. Howley's individual title came in the 50 breast where he turned in a winning time of 25.96. Fleming won two of the sprint freestyle events, posting a time of 9.77 in the 25 free and 20.75 in the 50. Hohm swept both distance freestyle races, winning the 500 (4:35.21) and 300 freestyles (2:40.11).

Junior Max Howes and freshman Ryan Stevenson rounded out the swimming wins for Denison. Howes took home the 100 freestyle crown with a time of 45.85, while Stevenson was the 100 breaststroke champ at 59.02.

Senior Ben Lewis and junior Max Levy owned the top-2 spots in both diving events. Lewis won the 3-meter event with an 11-dive score of 534.98. Levy was right behind with 531.38 points. The two switched placed in the 1-meter event with Levy (537.98) edging Lewis (507.08) by 30.90 points. Senior Nathan Lightman took third on both the three (471.60) and one-meter (474.08) boards, while junior Brian Allen was fourth in both events. Allen posted a score of 455.85 in the 3-meter and 461.93 in the 1-meter.

Prior to the meet, Denison honored its 14 senior members, Seamus Appel, Kevin Brinegar, Joe Brunk, Ian Delahunty, Conner Downard, PJ Fallon, Ryan Fleming, Henry Homans, Ben Lewis, Nathan Lightman, Andrew Rich, Jesse Smith, Nathan Thorne and Conrad Wuorinen. This group has won three consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference Championships along with three national runner-up finishes.

Denison will return to the pool on Feb. 10-13 when the Big Red host the 2016 North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championship at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
