Spencer Williams scored 18 points as The College of Wooster handed Denison an 83-67 loss on Sunday at Timken Gymnasium.  That drops Denison to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while Wooster improves to 7-4 and 3-1 in conference play.

Wooster trailed in the early going but posted an 8-2 run over the final 2:11 of the first half to take a 10-point lead into the intermission.

In the second half, Denison kept the game within reach and with 9:16 to play, after a pair of Max Siwik free throws, DU trailed by only seven.

The Fighting Scots came out of a timeout with a 3-pointer by Ari Stern to push the lead back to 10.

With just under three minutes to play, the Big Red found themselves in a three-possession ballgame, trailing 73-64 after a basket by Jett Speelman.  Wooster answered with a 10-3 run over the final 2:50 to lock up the win.

Denison just couldn't find its stroke from the field as they shot 37 percent (23-of-62) for the game and were only 5-of-22 from 3-point range.  Speelman paced DU with 17 points while Devon Pitts added 12 points and five rebounds.  Matthew Bauer also contributed11 points and 11 rebounds, marking his second-straight double-double.

While Williams led Wooster with 18 points, it was the Fighting Scot bench that proved to be the difference as they outscored the Big Red reserves 40-14.  Josh Kipfer tallied 14 points and led the home team with nine rebounds.  He was 7-of-9 from the field.  Mitch Balser chipped in 10 points in 19 minutes.

Wooster shot 48 percent from the field and were 8-of-20 (.400) from beyond the arc.  The rebounding battle was a stalemate as both teams finished with 35 rebounds apiece.

Denison will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 6 when they host Capital University at 7 p.m.
