Box Score Allegheny's Robert Julian pitched a complete game, three hit shutout as the Gators topped the Big Red, 3-0 in the deciding game of the North Coast Athletic Conference Crossover Series from Meadville, Pa. The win punches Allegheny's ticket to the NCAC Tournament in Chillicothe, Ohio while Denison's season comes to a close with a record of 19-18.
The Gators did all of their damage in the bottom of the third inning when Tyler Wagner led off the inning with a single off Denison starter Ryan Mulligan. Robert DiMaggio followed with a single through the right side of the infield, allowing Wagner to go to third.
With no one out, Patrick Orr delivered the first run of the game with an infield single that was knocked down by Denison shortstop Jack Blanchard. A sacrifice bunt by Dan Bonnett moved Orr and DiMaggio into scoring position and with two outs, Joe Killian singled up the middle scoring two for Allegheny.
Denison's best chance to score came in the seventh when Mulligan led things off with a double down the line in right. Julian would battle back to retire the next three Denison hitters.
In the eighth, Denison gained one base runner after pinch hitter Brandon Morgan was hit by a pitch with two outs. Julian would battle back to pop up Charlie Apfelbach to end the Denison threat.
Mulligan led Denison at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double. Apfelbach provided Denison's only other hit with a double in the third inning. Mulligan suffered the hard luck loss on the mound as he pitched eight innings, allowing eight hits and three earned runs while striking out five.
