Denison takes third at NCAC Tourney

After a grueling five and a half hour match with DePauw that carried over into early this morning, the third-seeded Denison men's tennis team returned to the court to shut out fourth-seeded Oberlin in the third-place match of the 2015 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on Sunday afternoon in Gambier, Ohio.

The Big Red grabbed a 3-0 lead with a clean sweep in doubles play. Grant Veltman and Jackson O'Gorman-Bean got things rolling with an 8-4 win over Callan Louis and Soren Zeliger at No. 1 doubles. Seniors Casey Cempre and Jeffrey LoDuca followed suit by knocking off Ian Paik and Michael Drougas at the second flight (8-6). The third doubles team of Owen Smith and Jack O'Koniewski picked up DU's third point with a hard-fought 9-7 victory over Abraham Davis and Billy Lennon.

Cempre and O'Koniweski provided the match-clinching points in singles play on Sunday. The senior gave the Big Red a 4-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 vcitory over Davis at third singles. O'Koniewski earned his second match-ending point of the weekend when he defeated Manickam Manickam at the fourth flight (6-0, 6-2).

With the win, Denison improved to 12-10 while the loss drops the Yeomen to 12-11.
