Box Score Denison and Wooster got together to complete a game that was suspended due to lightning on April 8th and the Big Red pulled away for an 18-7 win over the Fighting Scots from Granville.
When the game was stopped on April 8, the Big Red held a 6-2 lead with 39 seconds to play in the first quarter. Denison started fast, holding Wooster scoreless until the 6:29 mark of the third quarter. Up to that point, the Big Red orchestrated a 9-0 run allowing them to take a comfortable lead at 12-2. Liam Rooney scored three goals and added an assist in the first half. His final goal, off an outlet pass from Drew Newman, was flashy behind the back tally. He leads the squad in goals (35) and assists (24) and was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week after the contest for his play in DU's wins over Kenyon, Wabash and Wooster.
Following Rooney in the points category was Will Donohue and James Meager who both finished with two goals and two assists, each. Nick Caravana scored twice and assisted on Donohue's second goal in the first quarter. Caravana's second goal came in a man-up situation with 3:05 to play in the third.
Nick Bortolani, Jake Ellis, Alex Paulus, Jack Thomas, Jamie McCahan, Cole Perry and Nick Cargas would account for Denison's remaining seven goals. Clark Bullington played three quarters in goal, posting four saves. Chris Thomas made five saves in his 15 minutes of work.
Wooster was led by Pat Henderson who finished with three goals. Matt Parmelee scored once and added three assists. Tyler Lacroix started in goal, playing all 14:21 on April 8. Tonight, Ben Grombala played the remaining 45:39, finishing with seven saves.
The two teams went 14-for-28 in faceoff situations. Denison was led by Eric Baumgardner who was 12-for-20 with seven ground balls. The Fighting Scots committed 27 turnovers, 13 of which were forced by Denison. Teddy Sawyer, Max Burge, Blair Farinholt and Newman all finished with two caused turnovers apiece.
Denison closes out its regular season with an 12-3 record overall. They are 7-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference which earns them the No. 2 seed in this week's NCAC Tournament. The Big Red will host third-seeded Wittenberg on Wednesday, April 22 at 8 p.m.
