The Denison men's tennis team improved to 2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference West following a 7-2 victory at Wittenberg on Tuesday afternoon.
The Big Red jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of 8-1 decisions at second and third doubles. Senior Jeffrey LoDuca and Casey Cempre improved to 9-1 as a team with a second-flight win over JiaLang Woo and Akbar Tiwana. Grant MacPherson teamed up with Jamie McDonald to defeat Sean Munson and Stefan Thornberry at No. 3. At the top flight, Grant Veltman and Jackson O'Gorman-Bean earned their sixth win as a tandem with an 8-4 victory over Martin Mora and Alexey Topolyansky.
In addition to sweeping doubles, DU also took four of the six singles matches in Springfield. O'Gorman-Bean, McDonald and Costas Alevizopoulos all shut out their opponents 6-0, 6-0. O'Gorman-Bean improved to 8-3 at No. 3 singles, while McDonald and Alevizopoulos were victorious at fifth and sixth singles. LoDuca earned his second win at the fourth flight after defeating Tiwana 6-2, 6-1.
With the win, Denison improves to 9-9 overall and 2-1 in the NCAC West, while Wittenberg falls to 1-13 and 0-3 in league play. The Big Red will close out the regular season on Saturday at home against Wabash. The start of Saturday's NCAC West match is scheduled for 10 a.m.
