DU earns second shutout at Wooster

The Denison men's tennis team extended its current winning streak to three following a dominating 9-0 victory at Wooster on Monday afternoon.

The doubles team of Grant Veltman and Jackson O'Gorman-Bean posted their second win at the top flight with an 8-5 victory over Titas Bera and Jack Buchan. The Big Red also won second and third doubles with matching 8-4 scores. Seniors Casey Cempre and Jeffrey LoDuca moved to 4-0 as a team with a decision over Harrison Suttle and Willy Nelson. At flight No. 3, Owen Smith and Grant MacPherson moved to 5-4 on the year.

DU completed the shutout with straight-set victories at all six singles flights. O'Gorman-Bean picked up his team-leading sixth-consecutive singles win after defeating Suttle 6-4, 6-3 at second singles. After a slow start to the season, Veltman (6-4, 6-3) has now strung together five-straight wins at No. 1 singles, evening his record at 6-6 at the flight.

Cempre, freshman Jack O'Koniewski and LoDuca all earned their third-consecutive singles wins. Cempre (No. 3) and LoDuca (No. 5) both won with 6-2, 6-0 scores, while O'Koniewski was victorious at the fourth flight (6-2, 6-1). Smith improved to 8-2 at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Milo Saurman.

With the win, Denison improves to 6-7, while the Scots fall to 8-6 on the year. The Big Red returns to action on Saturday when they host Oberlin College at 1 p.m.
