Denison will enter the final day of the 2015 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship in second place with 260 points. They trail first place Kenyon by 88 points and lead third-place Williams College by 39 points.
Senior Damon Rosenburg swam his final 100 breaststroke on Friday night. An event that has been his feature race since his freshman year, Rosenburg would go on to post his best career finish at nationals. He finished with a time of 54.51 and that would place him third overall. His previous three national finishes in this event were fourth (2014), fifth (2013) and 10th (2012).
Two years ago, Rosenburg made history by becoming the first Division III swimmer to post a sub-54 second 100 breaststroke. Tonight, Emory's Andrew Wilson shattered the national record with time of 51.72. That time would have placed him third at last year's Division I national championship. It is also the ninth fastest short course 100 breaststroke time in USA Swimming history.
In the consolation final of the 100 breaststroke, Gus Evans touched in 55.63 to place 11th. That was a career-best time for the sophomore from Bellingham, Wash.
Senior Dan Hellman opened the night by posting the third All-American performance of his career. He swam the 200 butterfly in 1:50.05 which placed him 14th overall.
The night was wrapped up by the 800 freestyle relay team of Max Howes, Stuart Hohm, Ben Burdick and Joe Brunk. They entered the meet with the nation's second-fastest qualifying time of 6:37.99. They would combine for a time of 6:38.20 in the finals to finish sixth overall. The College of New Jersey won the race in 6:33.23.
Denison will return on Saturday for the 1,650 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, the 3-meter dive and the 400 free relay. Preliminaries begin at 11 a.m. EST with finals starting at 7 p.m. EST.
