Denison drops pair at Mary Washington

The 26th ranked Denison men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday in Fredericksburg, Va.  They opened the day with an 8-1 loss to No. 15 Mary Washington before returning with a 7-2 loss against North Carolina Wesleyan.

In the Mary Washington match, Owen Smith posted the Big Red's lone point at No. 6 singles after his 6-4, 1-6 (10-3) win over Scott Buie.  At No. 1 singles, Grant Veltman took on the nation's 20th ranked singles player, Tyler Carey, and fell 6-3, 6-3.  At No. 1 doubles the team of Casey Cempre and Veltman dropped an 8-6 match to Carey and Evan Charles.

Versus North Carolina Wesleyan, Smith won his singles match, 8-2 and he teamed with Grant MacPherson to win at third doubles, 9-8.

The Big Red will be back in action at Mary Washington University on Sunday (Feb. 22) when they take on Stevens Institute of Technology at 9 a.m.
