Box Score Denison's late second-half run fell just short as the Kenyon Lords left Granville with a 66-62 victory on Wednesday night.
The Lords got off to a red hot start and carried the momentum all the way into the second half where they built a 17-point lead with 11:36 to play.
The Big Red started to find their groove when senior Brad Woolard and sophomore David Meurer hit threes on back-to-back possession, cutting the deficit to 12 with 10:41 to go. DU continued to use the three-ball to pull closer to Kenyon, hitting three more triples over the next seven minutes of play.
With 1:28 on the clock, senior Robby Weingart's 3-pointer closed made it a 60-55 contest. After a one-and-done by the lords, Meurer pulled in an offensive board and drew a Jonathan Amador foul. The sophomore guard drained both attempts at the line to make it a three-point contest with 29 second to play.
Over the final 26 seconds, the Lords went a perfect 6-for-6 at the charity stripe which stifled any chance of a Denison comeback.
Amador and John Bray were the offensive spark for Kenyon, combining for 42 of the team's 66 points. Amador was nearly automatic from long range, going 6-for-8 from beyond the arc, while Bray went 10-for-14 from the field. Bray also grabbed eight rebounds, while Cooper Handelsman dished out seven assists.
Meurer provided a team-high 21 points for Denison after going 7-for-14 from the field and 5-for-5 from the foul line. He also hauled in five boards and handed out three assists. Weingart finished with 12 points and four rebounds, while King logged a game-high nine rebounds.
The loss drops DU to 13-9 overall and 7-8 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Kenyon improves to 7-15 and 5-10 in league play. The Big Red returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Wabash for a 3 p.m. contest.
