Women's Swimming and Diving

Big Red wins Relays

Powered by seven event wins, Denison's women took first place at the Kenyon Swimming Relays and Denison Diving Relays, hosted jointly by the two colleges.  Junior Carolyn Kane led the way for the Big Red as she was a member of all five winning relays. 

Kane started things off with a victory in the 200 medley relay along with Marissa Bednarek, Ashley Yearwood and Mary Van Leuven.  The group posted a time of 1:46.45.

In the 200 butterfly relay, Kane, Yearwood, Erin Hudson and Halli Garza touched in 1:45.97 to win.  Kane's other two wins would come in the 400 individual medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay.  In the 400 IM relay, Bednarek, Meredith Hird, Campbell Costley and Kane posted a time of 4:01.53.

Costley would return along with Kane, Hudson and Van Leuven to win the 200 free relay in 1:37.00.

DU's other win would come in the 200 backstroke relay as Keely Lovern, Yearwood, Alex Elizeus and Kane.  The foursome would touch the wall in 1:47.29.

At the diving relays in Granville, Denison's Eva Vivero and Emma Weber teamed up to win the 1-meter and the 3-meter competition.  On the 1-meter, Vivero finished second individually with a score of 226.35.  Weber checked in with a six-dive score of 189.05.  The duo combined for a score of 415.40, finishing ahead of second-place Kenyon who checked in at 382.85.

In the 3-meter, Weber and Vivero flipped places as Weber posted a score of 224.45 and Vivero ended at 208.65. 

Denison finished with 120 team points while Kenyon took second with 114.  Wooster checked in third with 66 points.  DU will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Chicago, Ill. for a quad meet against Northwestern, Illinois and the University of Chicago.
