Box Score Anne Denz scored the game-winning goal 47 seconds into the second overtime period, propelling No. 8 Denison to a 1-0 win over Allegheny College on Saturday in Meadville, Pa.
After playing 100 minutes of scoreless soccer, DU came out in the first minute of the second overtime period and found nylon. It was Jacquie Graham's pass that would center-up Denz from just inside the 17-yard box. Denz's strike beat Gator keeper Christina Gallagher. Her goal sends Denison's record to 11-1 and 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Late in the second half, it was beginning to look as if the match would not see overtime as Denison put five shots on-goal over the final six minutes of regulation. All five shots were saved by Allegheny's Gallagher who ended the match with 13.
For the match, Denison held an 18-10 advantage in shots and a 7-1 lead in corner kicks. In the first overtime period, both teams took two shots with each squad putting a shot on-frame.
Denz paced the Big Red with four shot attempts. Meg Wozniak, Ashlyn Flaherty and Drew Wentzel all tallied three shots. Denison goalkeeper Jenny Herold finished with two saves while lowering her goals against average to 0.57 in what would be her sixth shutout of the season.
Eighth-ranked Denison will return to Barclay-Thomsen Field on Tuesday, Oct. 13, when they host The College of Wooster at 7 p.m.
