Men defeat OWU in final primer for conference

Denison's men closed out its dual meet schedule on Saturday with a 192.5-91.5 victory over Ohio Wesleyan University from Delaware, Ohio.  The Big Red won 12 of 13 events before going exhibition for the final three events.

First-year Stuart Hohm was a winner in the 100 freestyle and the 300 freestyle and also swam on the 200 free relay team along with Kevin Brinegar, Conrad Wuorinen and Ryan Strother.  That relay swam as exhibition but their time of 1:25.46 was the best in the field.  In the 100 free, Hohm (47.16) edged Alec Carlson (47.29).  In the 300 free, he finished in 2:39.42, in front of Franz Kabelka who touched in 2:44.15.

Denison's divers competed against themselves but put up strong showings as Max Levy won the 1-meter and Connor Dignan took first on the 3-meter.  Levy snuck by Dignan on the 1-meter with a score of 337.75 while Digan finished with 336.40.  On the 3-mter, Dignan finished with a score of 364.35 while Levy took second in 316.10.  Ben Lewis and Brian Allen finished third and fourth, respectively on both boards.

Sophomore Garrett Procunier was a two-time winner on Saturday as he won the 100 backstroke in 54.75 and the 50 back in 25.48.  Henry Homans was the runner-up in both events.

In the 50 breaststroke and the 100 breast it was Al Nennig and Brendan Howley who went 1-2 in both events.  Nennig posted winning times of 58.08 and 26.46, respectively.

The lone distance event was the 500 freestyle and Kabelka topped Ben Burdick with a time of 4:43.36.  Burdick took second in 4:46.24.  In the sprint events it was Wuorinen who won the 25 yard free in 9.69 seconds.  He also posted the fastest time as an exhibition racer in the 50 fly in 22.68.

The 200 medley relay team of Wuorinen, Nennig, Sam Strosnider and Brinegar got the meet started with a victory and Liam Marsden-Readford picked up his first win of the season with a victory in the 100 butterfly in 51.48.

Denison will return to the pool on Feb. 11-14 when the Big Red host the 2015 North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championship at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
