Denison women's swimming & diving won its third dual meet of the season on Saturday as they knocked off visiting DePauw University, 176-107. Ashley Yearwood, Carolyn Kane and Marissa Bednarek paced the Big Red with three victories apiece. The win will carry Denison into their next dual meet, one week from today, when they host The Pittsburgh Panthers at 1 p.m.
Kane, Yearwood and Bednarek started DU off right as they teamed with Mary Van Leuven to win the 200 medley relay in 1:46.63.
Carolyn Kane would go on to win the 50 freestyle (24.18) and the 100 butterfly (58.00) and Bednarek swept the breaststroke events. In the 200 breast, Bednarek posted a 'B' cut time of 2:24.09 which was four seconds off her season-best time set in December at the Miami Invitational. She would also win the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.68. In both breaststroke events, Ellen Higdon placed second with a time of 1:08.75 in the 100 and 2:30.20 in the 200.
Yearwood's pair of individual wins came in the 100 free (53.53) and in the 100 backstroke (59.08). In the 100 free she edged Van Leuven who touched in 53.75 and in the 100 back, Keely Lovern placed second in 1:00.93.
Halli Garza won the 200 fly with a 'B' cut time of 2:05.58. That was just over two seconds shy of her season-best performance at Miami. Second-place in the 200 fly would go to Krysta Garbarino in 2:08.89. Garza would also finish second to Carolyn Kane in the 100 fly in 59.07.
Campbell Costley was a two-time winner thanks to strong showings in the 200 freestyle (1:52.42) and the 500 free (4:58.34). Taylor Johns was the runner-up in the 500 free with a time of 5:02.40 and she won the 1,000 freestyle in 10:16.00. Second-place in the 1,000 went to first-year Mae Riordan (10:41.87).
In the 200 backstroke, Elizabeth Kane would place second and Libby Dalziel touched third with times to 2:11.16 and 2:11.47, respectively. Elizabeth Kane and Dalziel also went 3-4 in the 100 backstroke.
Denison would compete in four events as non-scoring exhibition entries. In the 200 IM, Garza posted the best time of 2:10.22. The 400 free relay team of Rima Jurjus, Yearwood, Van Leuven and Carolyn Kane turned in a time of 3:33.89.
Both diving events were non-scoring for the Big Red as Sarah Lopez recorded the best score on both boards. Lopez totaled 372.60 in the 1-meter and 343.05 on the 3-meter. The second-best score on the 1-meter board went to Katherine Hennigan (331.13) and Carrie Bookheimer followed with a score of 338.48 in the 3-meter.
