The Denison men's swimming & diving team returned to competition for the first time in five weeks with a commanding 179-96 victory over North Coast Athletic Conference opponent, DePauw University.
Denison racked up 10 of 11 event wins before going exhibition, non-scoring, for the final four events of the meet. Sophomore Jack Lindell swept the backstroke events with a time of 1:52.27 in the 200 and 52.61 in the 100. Alec Carlson finished second to Lindell in both backstroke events with time of 1:54.91 and 53.48, respectively.
Fellow sophomore, Al Nennig, posted a strong finish to win the 100 breaststroke in 57.67. Damon Rosenburg was second in 57.92. In the 200 breast, Gus Evans edged Nennig for the win as he hit the wall in 2:10.03. Nennig was second in 2:11.39. In the 200 breststroke, Denison swimmers occupied the positions 1-7.
The same was true in the 200 fly where Aaron Saccurato led a 1-7 showing for the Big Red. Saccuato touched in 1:54.87 while Kevin Brinegar was second in 1:55.73.
Ryan Fleming won the 50 and 100 freestyles in 21.08 and 46.25, respectively. Conrad Wuorinen would post a second-place finish in the 100 (46.72) and a third-place finish in the 50 free (21.22).
Stuart Hohm was another two-time winner for the Big Red as he would finish first in the 1,000 free and the 500 free. Hohm won the 1,000 free in 9:38.09 and topped Saccurato with a time of 4:40.78 in the 500.
In the 200 freestyle Max Howes won the event in 1:42.48 while Franz Kabelka and Joe Brunk went 2-3. Brinegar touched second in the 100 fly in 51.60 while Andrew Rich ended third in 51.64.
The 200 medley relay team of Thomas Locke, Nennig, Rich and Fleming got DU going with a win in 1:33.62. The final event of the day, the 400 free relay, would be a non-scoring event for Denison as Fleming, Wuorinen, Rosenburg and Howes logged a time of 3:06.53.
DU would also go non-scoring in the 200 IM, and both diving events. In the 200 IM, Lindell posted a time of 1:54.84. On the 1-meter board, Connor Dignan led the way with a score of 502.35. On the 3-meter board it was Max Levy who racked up a score of 529.28.
Denison will return to action next Friday (Jan. 16) when they host Division I Ohio State at 4 p.m.
