Colonels slip past Denison

Box Score

A goal by Destinie Graves with eight minutes to play lifted the Centre College Colonels to a 1-0 victory over the Denison women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon in Granville, Ohio.

The two squads had quality scoring opportunities throughout the entire 90 minutes of play. After unloading 12 unsuccessful shots, Centre finally found the back of the net when Graves netted her second goal of the season off a through ball by Nancy Ingham.

The Colonels packed their defensive box over the final eight minutes, surrendering just one shot to Denison. That lone attempt was a shot by Meg Wozniak that sailed wide right with 18 seconds to go.

Centre held finished with an 18-14 edge in shots after outshooting the Big Red 13-4 in the second half. The Colonels also outcornered DU 6-4 and committed nine fouls, three more than Denison.

Junior captain Andrea Witte paced the Big Red offense with three shots, while Jessica Skelly and Wozniak each had two attempts. Denison goalie Jenny Herold made a career-high seven saves in 90 minutes.
