The 30th-ranked Denison women's tennis team picked up their second-consecutive victory following a 9-0 decision at Ohio Wesleyan in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Tuesday in Delaware, Ohio.
Senior Kelsey Geppner and sophomore Taylor Hawkins picked up their ninth victory of the season after shutting out Meghan Guthrie and Taylor Heasley at No. 1 singles. The Big Red completed the doubles sweep with a pair of 8-2 wins. Freshmen Emily Holloway and Lauren Schechtman won at the second flight, while sophomores Eleni Coleman and Frances Hinkamp were victorious at third doubles.
In singles play, DU picked up six straight-set wins. Hollway (6-1, 6-2) defeated Heasley at first singles, while Schechtman posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Guthrie at the second flight. Junior Heather Abzug moved to 3-0 in singles play this year after a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Sarah Torrence and Coleman each posted 6-1, 6-0 victories at the fourth and fifth flights, respectively, while Hinkamp was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at sixth singles.
Denison improves to 3-6 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC West Division, while the Bishops fall to 4-7 and 0-2 in league play. The Big Red returns to the court next Tuesday (April 1) when they take on Kenyon in Gambier, Ohio. Match time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
