A 5-1 advantage in singles play helped propel 13th-ranked Bowdoin to a 5-4 victory over the 29th-ranked Denison men's tennis team on Thursday in Claremont, Calif.
The Big Red gained the early advantage after sweeping doubles play. The No. 1 doubles team of Juan Guerra and Grant Veltman picked up their sixth-straight win after edging Samuel King and Kyle Wolstencroft, 8-6. With the win, the DU team is now 6-3 on the season, all at the top doubles flight.
At second doubles, Andrew Marczak and Casey Cempre moved to 13-4 on the year following an 8-5 win over Chase Savage and Luke Trinka. Jeffrey LoDuca and Jackson O'Gorman-Bean completed the sweep with a dominating 8-1 win over Noah Bragg and Chris Lord.
Despite building a 3-0 lead, the Big Red dropped five of six singles flights to Polar Bears. DU's lone singles victory came at the fifth flight where O'Gorman-Bean posted a straight-set win over Wolstencroft via 6-2 scores. Guerra and Veltman pushed both their flights to third sets before dropping decisions.
Denison (5-4) wraps up its spring break trip on Friday when they take on Occidental at 3:30 p.m. PDT.
