Denison drops Spring Break opener

The Denison men's tennis team suffered a 6-3 setback to Tufts University on Monday morning at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont, Calif.

The Big Red gained the early edge after taking two of the three doubles flights.  The duo of Juan Guerra and Grant Veltman continued to shine at No. 1 doubles following an 8-5 victory over Nik Telkedzhiev and Brian Tan.  The win marked Guerra and Veltman's fourth-straight and improved their record to 4-3 on the year.  Winning in more convincing fashion was the team of Jackson O'Gorman-Bean and Shankar Rajupet.  The DU tandem posted a dominant 8-2 decision over Austin Blau and Kevin Kelly at the third flight.

The Jumbos overcame their one-point deficit in singles play after taking five of the six matches.  O'Gorman-Bean spoiled the singles shutout with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Blau at fifth singles.  The sophomore is now 10-3 overall and is currently riding a three-match win streak.  Guerra and Veltman Both went to three sets before suffering setbacks at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively.

Denison falls to 4-3 with the loss, while Tufts improves to 2-0.  The Big Red returns to the court on Tuesday when they take on Trinity (Conn.) at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont, Calif.  Match time is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT.
