Box Score Georgie Montes hit two home runs and Eric Zmuda went 2-for-3 with a triple but that wasn't enough as the Big Red suffered a 17-7 loss to Eastern Connecticut State in Winter Haven, Fla.
For the second-straight day, DU trailed 4-0 after the first inning of play and an early 7-0 deficit would prove to be too much to overcome. Denison did scatter 15 hits, led by Montes' solo shots in the third and fourth innings. Zmuda, Denison's starting second baseman, scored a run on a wild pitch in the fourth after tripling to right field. Andrew Touhy, Alex Enrique, and Ryan Mulligan also added two hits apiece for Denison.
Eastern Connecticut was led by Brendan Lynch who hit for the cycle, going 5-for-6 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Lynch became the seventh player in ESCU to hit for the cycle. Brent Pelella got the win, pitching 3.1 innings in relief of starter Tyler Cyr. Pelella allowed one earned run while off four hits.
The loss was charged to Kyle Colgain who got the start and pitched 4.2 innings.
Denison will look to bounce back on Monday when they take on Ramapo at 4:30 p.m. in Auburndale, Fla.
