The Denison men's tennis team knocked off Kalamazoo College, 7-2, on Saturday in their home opener at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville, Ohio.
The Big Red improved to 13-5 in dual meet doubles action following a clean sweep on Saturday afternoon. The No. 1 team of Juan Guerra and Grant Veltman notched their third-straight win behind an 8-4 decision over Robert Hudson and Peter Rothstein. The second-flight tandem of Casey Cempre and Andrew Marczak moved to 12-2 overall and 6-0 in dual matches thanks to an 8-5 victory over Alan Faber and Branden Metzler. Denison completed the sweep with an 8-1 win from the No. 3 pairing of Jeffrey LoDuca and Jackson O'Gorman-Bean. LoDuca and O'Gorman-Bean are now 4-1 at the third flight.
In singles play, Denison won third through sixth singles to secure its fourth win of the year. Marczak and Cempre both won in straight sets at the third and fourth flights, while Graham Gettel and O'Gorman-Bean needed three sets to notch wins. Marczak knocked off Mike Korn 6-3, 6-2 en route to his team-leading 11th singles win, while Cempre dominated Hudson 6-2, 6-0 to earn his fifth-straight win.
Both Gettel and O'Gorman-Bean won their opening sets 6-2 and dropped the second sets via 6-3 scores. At fifth singles, Gettel defeated David DeSimone 10-5 in the final set, while O'Gorman-Bean took down Spencer Navarre 10-7 in the third set.
Denison improves to 4-2 with the win, while Kalamazoo falls to 3-3 on the year. The Big Red returns to the court on March 17 when they open their spring break trip in Claremont, Calif. against Tufts. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST.
