DU falls to OSU and Princeton

The Denison men's swimmers and divers finished with nine top-5 finishes as they suffered a pair of dual meet losses to NCAA Division I opponents, Ohio State and Princeton.

The Big Red fell to the Buckeyes 249-96 and dropped a 262-91 decision to the Tigers.

Senior diver Connor Dignan led the way with a pair of third-place showings in the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.  In the 3-meter, Dignan posted a score of 354.60, finishing behind a pair from OSU.  It was the same story in the 1-meter as he trailed Stephen Romanik and Shane Mizkiel from Ohio State after totaling 313.00 points.

The meet was cut in half and split between Friday night and Saturday morning.  On Friday, the 200 free relay team of Ryan Fleming, Conrad Wuorinen, Alec Carlson and Stuart Holm posted a time of 1:24.81 to finish fourth.  Wuorinen's 50-yard split of 20.96 led the way.  In the actual 50-yard freestyle, Wuorinen would pace DU with a fifth-place finish and a time of 21.22

In the 100 free, Fleming touched in 46.28, edging Wuorinen who touched sixth in 46.44.

Holm would return with a fifth-place finish in the mile after a time of 16:07.80 only to record a runner-up finish in the 500 free on Saturday.  Holm's time in the 500 was 4:37.29 and was just over a second behind the winning time set by Princeton's Teo D'Alessandro.

Denison's top performers were rounded out by Gus Evans' fourth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke in 2:08.29.  The 400 free relay team of Carlson, Wuorinen, Max Howes and Fleming closed the meet with a third-place finish and a time of 3:05.59.

Denison will return to action next Saturday (Nov. 15) when they host North Coast Athletic Conference rival, Kenyon College, at 11 a.m.
