Box Score Brad Woolard scored 19 points and Darius White scored 11 of his 17 points in the second half, helping Denison to a 76-65 win over Washington & Jefferson in the 2014-15 home opener from Livingston Gymnasium.
Denison took a four-point lead at the 15:45 mark of the first half after White connected on his first of five 3-pointers on the night. They would push that first half lead out to as much as 14 and hit the intermission with a 40-28 lead.
In the second half, the Presidents scored the first five points of the period, cutting the Denison advantage to seven. That would be as close as W&J would get as White knocked down consecutive triples, giving his team an 11-point lead. White's 3-pointer at the 18:16 mark would spark an 8-0 run that gave Denison a 54-35 lead with just over 12 minutes to play.
Over the next nine minutes Denison's lead would hover between 15 and 19 points which allowed head coach Bob Ghiloni the luxury of emptying his bench in the waning minutes.
Denison shot 43 percent from the field (29-of-68) but did most of their damage on the glass. The Big Red outrebounded the Presidents 54-27 and 23 of the team's 76 points came were second chance points courtesy of 19 offensive rebounds.
Briggs King came off the bench to grab a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with seven points in 17 minutes of action. David Meurer scored 11 points and led all players with six assists.
Washington & Jefferson was led by Mike Resnik's 23 points and six rebounds. Mitch Locher added 13 points and Jake Swan chipped in 11 points off the bench.
Denison improves to 2-0 on the season while W&J falls to 0-3. The Big Red will return to action next Tuesday (Nov. 25) when they host Case Western Reserve at 7 p.m.
