Wozniak is golden as DU tops DePauw

Box Score

A goal from first-year Meg Wozniak four minutes into the first overtime sent Denison to a 2-1 victory over DePauw University from Greencastle, Ind.  The victory closes out the Big Red's regular season with a 6-2 mark in North Coast Athletic Conference play.  That will guarantee them the No. 3 seed in next week's NCAC Tournament that will begin on Wednesday.

Denison trailed for much of the contest after DePauw scored in the 11th minute of play.  Jennifer Dimos would send a cross to the head of Chloe Jacob who converted the score.

That's the way the score would remain until the 85th minute when Anne Denz notched her fifth goal of the season, tying the match at 1-1.  Over the final five minutes of regulation, DU goalkeeper Jenny Herold would post three saves, helping force the extra session.

Off the opening kickoff in OT, Wozniak took a shot that had to be saved by DePauw keeper Sarah Cho.  Just over four minutes later, at the 94:26 mark, the NCAC's assist leader, Andrea Witte, would find Wozniak for the golden goal.  The play developed after Drew Wentzel's free kick was chipped from 35-yards out to Witte who connected with Wozniak.

DePauw (5-8-2, 3-3-2) held an 11-8 edge in shots while winning the corner kick battle 8-4.  Herold matched her career-high with seven saves.  Cho posted two saves for DePauw.

As the No. 3 seed, Denison (13-5, 6-2 NCAC) will travel to second-seeded Allegheny College on Wednesday (Nov. 5) for a 2 p.m. match.
