DU takes down Chicago in home opener

The Denison men's swimming & diving team captured 11 of the 16 event titles en route to a 188-107 victory over the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon from the Trumbull Aquatics Center in Granville, Ohio.

Junior Ryan Fleming and freshman Stuart Hohm paced the Big Red on Saturday with a combined four wins in freestyle events. Fleming posted victories in the 50 (21.37) and 100 (46.66) events, while Hohm was successful in the distance events. The freshman won the 1,000 free with a time of 9:42.96 and touched the wall in 4:39.99 in the 500 free.

The Big Red opened the event with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The grouping of Alec Carlson, Al Nennig, Andrew Rich and Conrad Wuorinen combined for a time of 1:34.44. Six other athletes each recorded a win for Denison against the Maroons. Senior Damon Rosenburg and sophomore Gus Evans combined to sweep the breaststroke events. Rosenburg was victorious in the 100 with a time of 58.78, while Evans' time of 1:53.81 was good enough for first in the 200.

Sophomores Max Howes and Jack Lindell posted first-place performances in the pool. Howes touched the wall in 1:43.90 to win the 200 freestyle, while Lindell logged a time of 1:53.81 in the 200 back. Divers Connor Dignan and Ben Lewis led the Big Red to a sweep in the dive tank. Dignan posted a score of 329.25 to win the 3-meter event, while Lewis' 289.50 points won the 1-meter board.

Denison returns to action next weekend when they travel to The Ohio State University to take on the Buckeyes and Princeton University in a tri-match. The two-day event begins on Friday at 5 p.m.
